Souls That Find Each Other
“There are no accidental meetings between souls.”
— Sheila Burke
Recently, I’ve come to a realisation that regardless of how close or far the people around us are, they will enter our lives at the right moment, stay for the right duration, and leave when the time is right. And somehow, a piece of advice, a compliment, or a conversation can change us.
I came across this concept In Yun, which holds that every human connection is formed through invisible ties spanning lifetimes. According to it, even brushing shoulders with someone on the street means your souls have crossed paths before. And honestly, the more I thought about it, the harder it became to believe that human connection is entirely accidental.
At the same time, it reminded me of the invisible string theory: that there are unseen threads tying people together despite distance, circumstances, or timing. Maybe that's why sometimes when we meet new people, they have this strangely familiar vibe.
Maybe that is why some people enter our lives so naturally that it almost feels rehearsed, as though the universe had planned the meeting long before we arrived there ourselves.
Sometimes, I think about how easily some people could have remained strangers. One missed event, one different classroom, one delayed reply, one changed decision, and entire friendships or memories would have never existed. Yet somehow, the right people still find their way toward us at the exact moment they are needed most.
Not everyone enters our lives to stay forever, though. I think that is the part people struggle to accept the most. We often assume meaningful connections must last permanently for them to matter. But maybe some people are meant to be lessons, redirections, or reminders instead of lifelong companions. Maybe their purpose is simply to change something within us before continuing on their own path.
When I look back, I realise that almost every version of me was shaped by people around me, even those who stayed only briefly. Some taught me confidence. Some helped me reflect on my actions. Some inspired me without even realising it. Others left quietly after teaching me exactly what I needed to know. Even endings that once felt painful now feel strangely meaningful in hindsight.
I think that is the beauty of human connection. We are constantly becoming pieces of each other. Carrying fragments of conversations, memories, habits, lessons, and emotions from people we once crossed paths with. In a way, none of us is entirely made by ourselves alone. We are partly built from everyone we have ever loved, lost, admired, missed, or learned from.
That is what In Yun truly means. Not just destiny, but the invisible ways people shape one another across time. The quiet understanding that no meeting is ever truly meaningless.
Maybe the invisible strings were never meant to keep us tied to people forever.
Maybe they guide us toward the souls that help us become who we are meant to be.
Love,
Ash
