Romanticising Life Without Losing Reality

“I have learned to find magic in the ordinary, not because life is always beautiful — but because I’ve chosen to notice when it is.”

Not every day feels like a book or a poem. Some mornings are slow and messy with a never-ending to-do list. And yet, somewhere lie moments worth cherishing. That little Milky Way lamp on my desk reminds me of the universe that blesses me; such things add to the happiness in my day. Cleaning the clutter on my desk or my shelf from time to time brings clarity and a quiet sense of satisfaction. Dressing neatly for school, wearing my favourite perfume, having my stuff in place, and even getting that difficult math problem right make a huge difference and help me romanticise my day-to-day life!

You don't need to have a 10-step skincare routine, study in an aesthetic cafe every day, have a Pinterest-worthy room, do facemasks for the sake of pics, those aesthetic outfits, or maintain journals for no reason.

Romanticising life isn't about perfection. It's not a delusion. This is because we are given the lens of a perfect, neat, tidy, and error-free online world. However, romanticising is choosing to notice the soft edges of a hard day. To allow the chaos and mess, while also allowing yourself a break from it.

It isn't always being the best; sometimes it's showing up for yourself and not letting your problems pull you down, reading after ages, rewatching your favourite series, and eating your comfort food. For me, making a realistic to-do list, taking breaks, having slump time to figure out things while being tired after a long day, listening to songs I used to love a long time ago, every day counts as romanticising life.

However, this doesn't mean neglecting your feelings and pretending things are perfect. It's not denial. It's choosing to pause and notice the joy of being. It doesn't mean you won't have bad days, unfinished tasks or less time for stuff you like.

Now, you may ask how I romanticise life? (without escaping reality hehe)

Well, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Celebrate your efforts, not the result- Romanticise the process of getting to your goal.
  • Romanticise rest as much as you romanticise hustle.
  • Love who you are becoming- True happiness lies in knowing that your efforts and steps lead towards good. There's no better way to motivate yourself than to love yourself for yourself.
  • Accept the slump and work towards betterment step by step instead of expecting way too much from yourself in one go.

In bustling rooms lies a ray of hope,

Most have a lot to cope.

A slight push goes a long way,

Helping us find peace every day.

It doesn't mean keeping away from reality,

But it means creating your reality.

Life isn't perfect, but it still holds light,

Even the blemishes can shine so bright.

You don’t need a perfect day to live a beautiful life. You just need a heart that’s willing to see it.
