Why I Love Reading: My Journey
"I have lived a thousand lives, and I have loved a thousand loves. I have walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read."
I'm excited to launch my blog with a topic close to my heart: my reading journey. This passion has profoundly influenced my life since I first discovered the magic of books at 7. In sharing this, I hope to illustrate how reading has been integral to my growth.
Initially, at around 6 years old, my mother urged me to embrace reading, but like many children, I was drawn to outdoor play. Everything changed in 3rd grade when I discovered 'The Magic of the Lost Temple' by Sudha Murthy. The captivating title piqued my interest, and I devoured the 150-page book in two days—a personal best that ignited my love for reading. I curled up in cosy nooks, sacrificing sleep to immerse myself in stories. Completing that book not only instilled a profound sense of accomplishment but also honed my ability to concentrate for extended periods.
This newfound passion propelled me to seek out more from Sudha Murthy, compelling me to explore a nearby bookstore, where coincidently, I discovered a fan meet for her book launch. Meeting and conversing with her was a surreal experience, a moment of pure joy that reinforced my admiration for her work. I subsequently immersed myself in her other writings and those of authors like Ruskin Bond and Devdutt Pattnaik, further broadening my literary horizons.
I have always found Hindu mythology and folklore fascinating. Alongside books by Indian authors, I also enjoyed works by Enid Blyton, J.K. Rowling, and others.
As I delved deeper into my reading, my imagination soared, unlocking a torrent of creativity expressed through vibrant words and innovative ideas. Books have consistently provided me with peace, as a portal to alternate realities or desired worlds away from the everyday.
The genres of fiction, mythology, and mystery have enabled me to immerse myself in vibrant and intricate imaginary worlds, each distinct to the narratives I explore within the pages of every book I read.
The most profound lessons I have gleaned encompass the following:
1. The intrinsic Power of Choice and the profound Strength of Love and Friendship, as illuminated in the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling.
2. Markus Zusak's The Book Thief illustrates the power of words and the essence of humanity, especially in difficult times.
3. The moral imperative of Duty Over Personal Desires and the subtle understanding that Absolute Good and Evil are constructed, as portrayed in the Ram Chandra Series by Amish.
4. True strength comes from humility. The idea is that karma always catches up with people, as discussed in Sudha Murthy's "The Upside Down King."
And many more
When I began high school, I struggled with prioritization and consistency, significantly impacting my progress. I found myself trying to juggle numerous tasks but ultimately achieving very little. This frustration led me to discover several influential books, such as 'Atomic Habits' by James Clear and 'Positively Teenage' by Nicola Morgan. These readings sparked a profound interest in self-development and prompted me to dive deeper into self-improvement literature. Since then, I've made it a habit to read more self-development books, which greatly enriched my growth journey. My perspective on challenges and myself has changed significantly with the help of these books. I have started to prioritize personal development and work on my confidence much more than before.
Reading books has been instrumental in fostering connections with others, enabling friendships, and networking with professionals. They are my preferred conversation starters, often leading to the most engaging discussions. Currently, I'm exploring self-development and fiction. My current favourite author is Tam Kaur. Her book 'Buy Yourself The Damn Flowers' is helping me understand and process my emotions, and understand self-love and detachment.
In conclusion, my reading journey has been more than just a series of stories; it has been a transformative experience that has shaped my perspectives, fueled my creativity, and inspired personal growth. Every book I've read has not only enriched my understanding of the world but also connected me to a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion. As I continue to explore the realms of fiction and self-development, I remain grateful for the gift of reading. It has provided me solace, wisdom, and the courage to navigate life's complexities. Through the pages of countless books, I have indeed lived a thousand lives, and I look forward to the many more adventures that await me on this literary journey. Thank you for joining me as I celebrate the power of words and the magic they bring to our lives.
